The most iconic tower to date, Burj Khalifa, is one of ALT’s most notable projects and is considered an architectural masterpiece. The tower rising to 828 meters is divided into a mixed-use program from an office, retail space, residential units, an Armani Hotel, and an observatory deck.
The centerpiece to a skyscraper-dominated metropolis, Burj Khalifa’s Y-shaped configuration allows flexible spaces and enhanced views of the Arabian Gulf. The overall aesthetics of the tower designed by SOM with collaboration from Hyder Consulting draws inspiration from the geometries of an organic desert flower and the patterns reflected in Islamic architecture. Further, Burj Khalifa tapers as it rises to the pinnacle, with the top forming into a spire to minimize wind forces and maximize constructability.
Perhaps one of the most challenging works for this project, apart from its unprecedented scale and height, is the glass facade that should be able to mitigate Dubai’s changing climate. ALT was commissioned from concept design, sourcing out of suitable façade contractor up to construction completion to assist and fast-track the curtain wall and cladding installation. Developed by EMAAR Properties, Burj Khalifa has redefined architecture and engineering for more than a decade and continues to embody Dubai’s growth, culture, and identity.
