The Star, developed by CapitaLand Mall Asia Limited and designed by Aedas is a mixed-use complex in Singapore that basically has it all: Star Vista, a 260,000 square foot shopping mall and Star Performing Arts Centre, a 5,000-seat concert hall that also doubles as a venue for Sunday church service. Perhaps most notable about this structure is its curving glazed canopy. A glass canopy and monumental columns mark the building’s eastern end, which then creates a sharp contrast with the more opaque, albeit still sculptural, façade at the structure’s rear. The curved glass surface also serves as the ceiling of the open-air mall. With ALT working as the façade consultant for this magnificent structure, The Star Singapore is the perfect mash-up in both function and form.
